Zeolite was first discovered in 1756 by Axel Fredrik Cronstedt a Swedish mineralogist. He states the name derives from the Greek word "zeo" which translates "to boil" and the Greek word "lithos" which translates to "stone." Zeolites are formed where volcanic rocks and ash react due to alkaline groundwater. Zeolites that are found in nature the majority of the time are never pure. They are oftentimes found combined with other minerals such as quartz, metal, and even other Zeolites.
