The name carnelian is derived from the Latin word “carneous” which translates to ‘flesh.” Known as a member of the chalcedony variety, carnelian is known to come in a variety of shades and colors such as brown, red, orange, and pink. However, it is most commonly found with shades of red and orange, sometimes with subtle hints of white and/or brown. In history, ancient Egyptians wore carnelian as a symbol of their rank and status. They associated carnelian with both fire and solar energies, calling it the “setting sun.”
